4/10-4/17　Zoo Keeper's Day 2022 Event ＠ Okinawa Zoo & Museum

April 19 is "Zoo Keeper's Day," a wordplay on the numbers 4-1-9 (shi-i-ku) in Japanese.
The Japan Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) established this program in 2009 to promote interest in zoos and aquariums by providing information on the work of zookeepers.
Okinawa Zoo & Museum will hold events such as the "Zookeeper Experience for Adults" and "Backyard Tour" where visitors can learn and experience the work of zookeepers.

① Zookeeper Experience for Adults
This is an opportunity for those ages 18 and older can experience the work of a zookeeper. The animals you will take care of will be announced on the same day.
Fee: ¥2,000 (This is the annual passport fee. For those who already have an annual passport, this will be considered a renewal fee.)
Application period: March 27 (SUN)-April 9 (MON)
Event period] April 10 (SUN)-April 17 (SUN) ※Except April 12 (TUE)

Capacity: 3 per day (reservations in advance required)

② Backyard Tour
After learning about what a zoo is, participants will get a tour the kitchen, food storage room, and other parts of the zoo lead by the zookeepers. Participants will also get to experience feeding the elephants.

Location: In front of the Animal Center Zoo School

③ Zookeeper Experience for Everybody
Have fun in three areas where you can experience what it's like to be a zookeeper!
Date & Time: April 16 & 17, 2022 (SAT & SUN) 9:30-16:00
Location: Area in front of the main gate
Fee: Free
Capacity: None

④ Experience preparing food for the elephants♪」
Participants will learn what the elephants in Okinawa Zoo eat, and experience preparing and feeding the elephants.
Date & Time: April 16 & 17, 2022 (SAT & SUN) 10:00-12:00
Location: In front of the elephant area
Fee: Free
Capacity: 10 (reservations in advance required)
Eligible participants: Elementary school students and older

⑤ Exhibit introducing the work of zookeepers
What do the zookeepers of Okinawa Zoo do on a daily basis? A panel exhibit will be held to introduce the work of the zookeepers.
Exhibit period: April 1, 2022 (FRI)-May 1, 2022 (SUN)
Location: In front of the Animal Center Zoo School and Hall entrance
