Okinawa Zoo is raising Yambaru Kuina (Okinawa rail) under the "Okinawa Rail Conservation and Breeding Project” implemented by the Ministry of the Environment,
As a risk diversification measure to prevent dangers such as disasters or infectious diseases from affecting a single breeding location, the zoo keeps Yambaru Kuina in captivity.Although they are usually kept in a non-public area, a special spring break event will feature a limited-time public viewing. The event will also include guided tours by zookeepers, providing insights into the ecology of the Yanbaru Kuina and the challenges they face in the wild.
