Okinawa City

Location
Located 20 km north of Naha City, in the Chubu region of Okinawa Main Island.
Population and Size
Population: about 142,600 (second largest in Okinawa Prefecture), Total area: of 49.00m²
Directions
  • Approximately 40 minutes by car from Naha Airport using the expressway. Exit at Okinawa Minami IC or Okinawa Kita IC.
  • Buses to and from Naha Bus Terminal are also available.
  • 10-20 minutes by car from Onna Village resort hotels.
Origin of the City's Name
In 1974, former Koza City and former Misato Village merged. The new city name was chosen by public vote.

Uruma City

Location
Located 25 km northeast of Naha City on the east coast, in the Chubu region of Okinawa Main Island.

Population: 125,000 (3rd largest in Okinawa Prefecture), Total area: 86.08m²

  • Approximately 50 minutes by car from Naha Airport using the expressway. Exit at Okinawa-kita IC or Ishikawa IC.
  • Buses to and from Naha Bus Terminal are also available.
  • 10-20 minutes by car from Onna Village resort hotels.
Origin of the City's Name
The name is derived from the Okinawan word "Uruma" meaning "Island of Coral."
