Nakasone Kimono Store |Area: Chuo

Traditional Okinawan patterned kimono, Western dresses, patchwork items and much more!

Run by a group of folk singers from central Okinawa, this is a long-established kimono producer and retailer, favored by local folk music artists. Nakasone offers a large variety of Okinawan textiles in many different woven patterns for kimono. The store devotes itself to creating unique, innovative blends of contemporary and traditional elements, such as Western-style formal wear and girls’ dresses made with Okinawan fabric, bingata broaches, martial arts training suits made from fabric scraps and more.
The ideas for Nakasone's unique products are derived mainly from everyday life. “Do you know the costumes for Yotsutake (a form of Ryukyuan dance), which are made of a traditional yellow patterned fabric? I first created a dress for my granddaughter's Shichi-Go-San ceremony (a Japanese custom to celebrate a child’s 3rd, 5th and 7th years) with the same fabric, but in pink, then I started making elegant dress and coat sets for women and more and more pieces. The dress and coat sets are well designed for covering up body flaws, and they are good for all body types,” says the shop owner. Nakasone is also recommended for kimono neophytes. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are available to assist you in choosing the fabric and pattern for your special attire, and they also provide fashion tips and style ideas.
They also have have men’s kimono for rent.
