STAY KOZA
Koza has lots of accommodation bursting with originality. There are nostalgic hotels ? almost museums in their own right ? marked with the ‘A Sign’ (a business permit issued by the US forces before the handover to Japan in 1972) where you can be surrounded by furniture and fittings from an age gone by. There are also unique hotels following the concept of ‘High Grade B’ where restaurants serve simple Okinawan home cooking, and other hotels which offer workshops where professional folk musicians will give you lessons on how to play the sanshin and even how to make your own sanshin from wood. At long-standing hotels the maitre d’ can recount fascinating stories of the Vietnam War era or the changes she has witnessed in the area over the years. As there are many non-Japanese tourists who visit the area, there are plenty of high-ceilinged, spacious hotels on offer as well.
