Two Giant Tug of Wars in Okinawa City

Awase Tug of War

The Awase Giant Tug of War is held once every five years. In 2018, the participants were divided into two groups, the west (Iri) and east (Agari), and pulled for 30 minutes with loud shouts of "Haruyoi, Haruyoi," and the roadside was crowded with about 50,000 people.
The 2023 event will be held on Sunday, November 19 at a special venue in Awase Fishing Port.

International Giant Tug of War (Okinawa International Carnival)

The International Giant Tug of War is the main event of the Okinawa International Carnival, one of the most international festivals in Okinawa City.
The "International Giant Tug of War," in which traffic is controlled on Koza Gate 2 Street and U.S. military personnel and the international community participate, is about 80 meters long and weighs about 10 tons in total. The event attracts a large number of participants, and is a high-profile event with a Japan-U.S. showdown!
